How Acupuncture Works
In the grand scheme, Acupuncture is very new to the United States. In its infancy, really. It’s natural that people seek certain answers before they decide to try it as a form of treatment. As practitioners, we do our best to answer these questions, (in an understandable way), based on our extensive studies and training.
There’s a few basic questions we get all the time. Some are easy to answer others are less so. Most people know “what” acupuncture is. (We stick tiny needles into your body, they make you feel better.) Another big question is “how” does it work. The simple answer is, it boosts your body’s own healing powers. A more detailed answer, could get unnecessarily complicated. So to quote a popular computer maker, for now we’ll say, “it just works.” ☺
But a very important question, that we don’t get very often, is “why?”.
- “Why should I try acupuncture, when I have so many options for how I take care of my health?”
This is crucial, and I will attempt to answer it here.
First off, acupuncture is a very pleasant experience. Even people who are afraid of needles have expressed how surprised they were that they could hardly feel them. (On occasion, you might feel a pinch, or get a jolt, but 95% percent of the time, all you’ll feel is a slight tapping sensation.) Once the needles are in, you would just lay there and relax. We play soft music, offer essential oils, and try our darndest to make it a relaxing and pleasant experience. Now the thing is, study upon study has been done proving that relaxation is great for your health! The short-term effect is that people report leaving feeling rested, refreshed and rejuvenated. In the long term, they find relief, and prevention, of other health complaints.
So, if that was all we did, was provide you with a peaceful oasis, that alone would enhance your chances of bettering your health.
But there’s more to it than that, which I will address in the next “tip”.
