Turmeric – Nature’s Miracle
Of all the many miraculous herbs offered by nature, perhaps none has been so studied and widely used as Turmeric. You’ll find out shortly, why Turmeric, and it’s main ingredient Curcumin, have been getting so much hype lately, and why it’s hype well deserved.
The use of Turmeric goes back 6,000 years. It’s associated with Ayurvedic or Indian medicine. Its use as a spice, or more modernly as a supplement, offers numerous benefits. It’s the main claim to fame is reducing inflammation. It does so by blocking inflammatory enzymes. Some studies show that in the right dosage, it does so better than steroids and NSAIDS, with none of the side-effects those carry from long-term usage. When you consider also, that inflammation can in some cases cause depression, it follows that Turmeric can also act as an antidepressant for some.
Turmeric is also a strong antioxidant; that is, it reduces oxidative stress and free radicals in the blood. It also activates AMPK enzymes in the blood, which regulates glucose levels, allowing some to claim that regular supplementing of Turmeric can prevent type-2 diabetes. This herb also blocks malignant cell replication in some cancers. Making treatments more effective. It also improves brain function, and lowers risks of heart disease,
However, not all supplements are created equally. Here is an example of one brand I feel has one of the best Turmeric supplements around. Paleovalley Turmeric Complex is an excellent formulation of the Turmeric herb. It’s made from whole-grade, organic Turmeric. Since you get the whole herb, it has all of Turmeric’s many components, which work together in many ways beyond simply say, Curcumin extract. It also adds black pepper, increasing absorption by 2000%. Also helping absorption is coconut oil and a gentle heating process. Last but not least, it includes other Antioxidants and Anti-inflammatories such as Ginger, Clove, and Rosemary. I really like this brand and all of their products, but if you want to try something else, you can simply use this as a guide for what a quality supplement should look like.
