TCM Friendly Recipe – Spring Green Smoothie
Smoothies are an easy, and delicious way to get your days worth of fruits and vegetables. However, in TCM we often advise against foods that are too cold and uncooked. The reason for this, is that cold and raw foods are harder to digest. But, raw fruits and veggies are also packed full of vitamins and nutrients. What is one to do?
Well, making the occasional exception for a smoothie is going to help, more than hurt you. Especially if there are ingredients with “warming properties”; that is, they support digestion. With this in mind, smoothies are a great way to get your fill of seasonal fruits and veggies. If your digestion isn’t deficient, a cool or room temperature smoothie won’t hurt you. If however, you find yourself getting abdominal pains, or digestive issues after drinking one, then your digestion probably needs some help, and you should focus on that, and lay off the raw foods for a while.
Here is a TCM Friendly Green Smoothie called “Beginner’s Luck”, from FamilyTreeAcupuncture.com:
Beginner’s Luck
2 cups kale, fresh (warming)
1 cup almond or rice milk (warming)
1 cup water
1 cup pineapple (warming)
1 cup mango (warming)
2 bananas
Instructions: Blend kale, water and almond/rice milk until smooth. Next, add the remaining fruits and blend again. Drink at room temperature.
Bonus: If you do have some digestive issues, they also offer this great morning tonic:
Morning Tonic (modified)
1 cup hot water
1 tablespoon freshly-squeezed lemon juice
1-2 thin slices fresh ginger
Directions: Boil one cup hot water and pour into a mug. Add ginger and lemon juice and let steep for 3 minutes. Sip and enjoy!

Crystal Bowl Sound Healing
Group Meditation
Sound healing is a form of meditation that is performed in a group where you lay on a yoga mat and let the sound transport you.
Sound healing has many benefits including:
- reducing stress and anxiety
- improves circulation
- deepens relaxation
- increases mental & emotional clarity.
- restores balance
Vibrational sound healing can be traced back from present day trends to many ancient civilizations including India, Africa, Europe, and the Orient. The idea is to restore balance to the chakra system and clearing the blocked energy within ourselves. Sound healing is similar to reiki healing; It is a form of energy healing that allows your body to self-regulate and self heal.
Let the sounds vibrate through you to feel the power of self preservation and healing.

Reiki Informational Workshop Monday 4/29/19 at 6pm
Traditionally, the term Reiki is translated as “Spiritual Energy,” or “Spiritually Guided Energy,” as it connects us to the natural flow of universal life force energy that “powers” all living things. Connecting to this energy-something we already do unconsciously-promotes equilibrium across all aspects and dimensions of our being, as well as enhances our bodies’ natural capacity for healing and self-repairs. Most commonly, the following physical sensations occur during treatment:
- Regulation of the breath/respiratory system, represented by deeper, slower, more natural breathing patterns.
- Regulation of the stomach/digestive system, represented by gastrointestinal activity (i.e. flatulence, rumbling, etc.)
- Regulation of the sleep/wake cycle; promotes sounds sleep/aids insomnia
Try swapping out, and adding ingredients to keep things interesting. Ginger for example is a great addition that aids digestion!
With Love,
Liz
