5 Elements of Spring – Wood
I think it’s safe to say, that Spring is here at last. The water element of winter engenders the wood element of spring. The energy of spring is “upward and outward,” and its color is green. Just like the green, sprouting plants of the season. It’s the blossoming of yang energy, emerging from the extreme yin of winter. If you are a “wood” type, you may feel this energy even more strongly. Pay particular attention if you’ve even taken our “What Element are You?” quiz, and found out you are a “wood” type.
The season of spring has the properties associated with the wood element. It is “yang emerging from yin”. Illnesses of the “wood” organs, the Liver and Gall-Bladder, and their functions, are predominant. In TCM, these organs are responsible for the smooth flow of qi and blood. Blockages of this flow can cause pain.
So, we see for example; Migraines, and PMS pain. We also see more eye problems and sinus issues. Problems with tendons and joints.
Lastly, the emotion of wood is anger. Excess anger, also depression, is a good sign your wood element is out of balance.
When a person is “a predominant Wood type,” according to their nature, They may be more likely to develop health problems associated with the Wood element. Such as Liver and Gall-Bladder issues as mentioned above. Following these same principles, we can offer you health tips, based on balancing the wood element. In the next few weeks, we will focus on acupressure points for self-massage, exercises, and dietary advice, that all work to strengthen, and balance the “Wood” element in you.
