What Behaviors Do You Associate With Fall?
Practicing behaviors that are in tune with the season, is one of the simplest ways to help maintain proper physical and emotional health. Changing cycles are a natural part of life. Likewise, changing up our patterns from time to time helps keep things fresh, and contributes towards growth and development. With that in mind, let’s review some of the important aspects of Fall, in order to better attune with the season.
Traditionally, Fall is associated with the metal element. One theory why is the use of metal tools to help gather the harvest. In this sense, metal is also used for separating; what will be kept for use, and what will be discarded. Philosophically, that makes this a good time of year for reaping what we’ve sown back in Spring and discarding the waste.
In terms of health, the “metal” organs are the lungs and large intestines. They also have this function, of taking in, separating, and releasing. The lungs taking in the pure air, and exhale the stale, stagnant air. The Large Intestines extract useful fluids and nutrients while excreting waste. You can facilitate these functions, by making smart choices for seasonal and nutritional foods. If you have developed any health problems regarding these organs, acupuncture and herbal therapy can be good remedies.
