Power up…with Acupuncture!
Recently, Forbes magazine posted an article naming acupuncture the New Wall Street Power Lunch. It highlights how acupuncture can be used not just as treatment, but also for prevention and optimization. Chronic stress causes all sorts of health problems. Put simply, exposure to stress triggers our “fight or flight” response. It pumps adrenaline and other things into our blood that prepare us for physical “fight or flight”. This sends more blood and fuel to the muscles for physical activity. That’s fine if you work in a physical job. However, many of us work in environments where the stress is mental, not physical. Nevertheless, our bodies react the same. This wreaks havoc on our internal organs; especially the heart, and digestive organs. Whereas people who do physical labor will tend to have more external problems, as in their muscles and tendons.
So how does acupuncture help? It switches our body from “fight or flight” to “rest, digest, and repair”. Essentially your training your body to be in a more relaxed state. This results in less wear and tear on the internal organs, and a more relaxed and alert state of mind. For external injuries, treatments over time can help restore the normal flow of energy, and blood to the injured area, while again triggering the bodies rest and repair functions.
So who could benefit from acupuncture? In short, everyone! Regular treatments help restore balance in the body. This is of benefit physically, mentally, and emotionally. It can effectively be both, a remedy and a prevention. If this sounds like a good fit for you and your healthcare goals, I urge you to give it a try!
