Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli.
Self-Massage and Qi-Gong for the Wood Element.
Following with our focus on the Spring (Wood) element; this week, we’ll offer a quick self-massage, and some Qi Gong energy work, to strengthen your Wood-like energy.
The self-massage has two parts. First, close your eyes. Now, starting from the inner edge of your eyebrows, using your index fingers, massage outward along with eyebrows. Next, using your thumbs, massage from the inner-part, along the ridge under your eyes, going again in an outward direction. Repeat these steps 3-5x.
“Qi Gong” means quite literally, “Energy Work.” There are many Qi Gong exercises. Most are very easy to do, and with diligent practice, can have significant benefits for your health. Technically, the self-massage is also Qi Gong, as are any stretches or exercises you might do. Qi Gong consists of simple exercises, that when done regularly, contribute towards better health.
In this exercise for the wood element, first, get into a comfortable seated position. Make a modified “ok” sign with your hands. Have the pads of your thumbs touching the pads of your ring-fingers. Breath 5 breaths in through the nose, then 1 big breath out the mouth. Repeat this three to five times for one set. Again, you can do these exercises each morning, each night, or whenever you have a few minutes to spare.
These exercises will help will improve vision, combat tempers, and give you inner calm.
Keep at it, and next week we’ll talk about food.
