Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli, from the office of Elizabeth Martin.
Extended Spring – and New Opportunities
This is a real opportunity to embrace the true nature of springtime. In the weeks ahead, as many of us transition back to work, we will be going through a re-learning period. We will have to learn anew, many things that we were previously in the habit of doing quite easily. It’s likely we will face frustration, and in some cases anger, as we move and grow significantly. Learning again, “from scratch”, as they say, will offer us the opportunity to improve in ways that are difficult when we are too set in our old ways.
This is part of the natural flow of seasons. The element of spring is wood, and the primary organs of spring are the Liver, Gallbladder, and eyes. The emotions of spring are anger and frustration. We can see this connection to common seasonal allergies. Histamines released make our eyes itchy and red, they also cause us to feel anger and frustration. These emotions may be unpleasant, but used properly can be a great source of energy. The feeling is like the efforts made by a sprouting new plant, breaking through the soil. It is difficult but necessary to break through, in order to grow and thrive in the coming months. If you’re feeling anger and frustration, get moving! Move the breath, with deep breathing, or move your body by getting outside to walk or garden. Stay in tune with proper activities, and use the dietary suggestions from previous emails.
The cycles of energy within your body work the same way as does nature. Understanding that these are natural cycles of growth, provides the hope that following difficult times, our efforts will bear fruit. It helps to know, “this too shall pass,” and also, how to prepare for what comes next. The struggles and frustrations of spring leads to the expansive joys of summer. Keep this in mind, when troubles come knocking at your door.
