Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli, from the office of Elizabeth Martin.
Preparing Indoors for Cold Season
With the weather being cold, we enter the beginning of cold and flu season. Viruses love the cool dry air of this time of year. For now, we will focus on things you can do to keep those little buggers at bay. Keeping you and your loved ones healthy and happy through this busy holiday season.
An often overlooked aspect of fighting germs is indoor air quality. Most modern heaters are fine to keep us warm, but they also make the air very dry. This is good for viruses, and bad for you. Respiratory infections are much more likely in this type of environment.
Get a good humidifier, and keep it set around 45% humidity. Some even have the added bonus of allowing you to diffuse essential oils in with the mist. Essential oils are good for lifting your mood, but can also be used to combat airborne viruses and bacteria. Some good oil choices are Thieves, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, and Lavender. These can be used in a diffuser, or applied directly to the soles of your feet, to great effect.
Since many viruses and bacteria are airborne, it makes sense that an important part of your plan to stay healthy addresses the air quality in the places you live and work. Take care of that, and you’ll be one step ahead of any pernicious organisms looking to call your body “home” for the holidays.
