Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli, from the office of Elizabeth Martin.
Illness Recovery
So despite your best efforts, you, or someone in your family got sick. When this happens, sometimes all you can do is rest, and ride things out. There are, however, some things you can do to speed up your recovery.
If you had a respiratory infection, and your sinuses are dry, or infected, try using a neti pot with distilled water and Himalayan rock salt. (If you can’t find the pink Himalayan salt, sea salt is a good alternative.) Keeping your sinuses well hydrated will make them better able to fight off infection.
If you have a digestive illness (vomiting or diarrhea), first-off is let the muscles relax a few hours. Then you need to rehydrate. Bone broth, made from chicken bone, is a good choice. You could also try ginger tea. Get a thick slice of fresh ginger, and steep it for 10 minutes. Then add lemon, raw honey, and a little salt. Any low-sugar electrolyte drinks are good too.
Once rehydrated, consider doing a course of probiotics to replace all the beneficial gut flora that has been lost. Also, stick to well cooked easily digestible foods for a while. Soups, and congee rice porridge offer many good options.
