Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli.
We’ve all heard the expression, “you are what you eat”. When one considers, that what we ingest, is used by our bodies to heal, to grow, and to function, it becomes clear that this is quite literally true. More than anything else, our diet is what determines our health, and our quality of life. This may not be immediately apparent. Most of the time, eating poor quality food does not immediately make you sick. But eat that food day after day, year after year, and your body will start to pay the price. With this in mind, forming a quality diet takes awareness, education, and discipline. It’s the journey of one-thousand miles, that begins with one step.
Many people will ask, “what diet should I follow?” This is not an easy question to answer. We can offer general guidelines, but each of us may react differently to different foods. Trends in dieting happen often, where the newest one contradicts the last. It takes a lots of work, and diligence to commit to finding the diet that works for you. All I can say in general, is that diet is the biggest factor contributing to your long term health, and that making the long-term effort towards bettering your diet is of the utmost importance. The Greek physician Hippocrates famously said, “let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.” Much has changed in the ways of medicine over the years, but the importance of this statement has not.
