Dear Patients,

At Hands on Health and Wellness it is our mission to maximize your mind and body health. We are excited to announce our weekly wellness tips brought to your by one of our Licensed Acupuncturists, Michael Savalli. Each week he will be popping in your email box to deliver practical Eastern Medicine tips to apply into your daily life and create wellness for your entire family!

Healthy Activities for the Fall

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we pay close attention to how the environment, and seasons effect our health.  (That’s part of where we get the term “holistic”.)  We notice that in different seasons, some illnesses show up more frequently.  There are steps we can take to strengthen our bodies, and prevent or recover from, those illnesses.

Fall, is dry and windy.  At Hands On Health and Wellness we see many respiratory infections, and digestive issues this time of year.  Therefore, the organs we focus on in fall, are the lungs and large intestines.  Acupuncture and herbal medicine are great ways to strengthen the functions of these organs.  However, you can also help yourself with seasonally appropriate activities.

The Lungs are all about taking in the new, so practice deep breathing while going for walks, and taking in the bountiful sights.  The Large Intestines eliminating waste.  It’s a good time to clean and declutter your homes.  You don’t want to be stuck inside all winter with a big mess!  It’s also a good time to be more introspective.  We can “let go” of what we no longer need, and plant new seeds, “breathing in” the new possibilities they may bring.
