Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli.
In recent years, we are seeing more and more people who are suffering from digestive problems. Some are mild but inconvenient sensitivities to certain foods; while others are very serious, greatly impairing one’s ability to lead a productive life. The former includes allergies or sensitivities to foods like gluten or dairy. The latter includes chronic, painful illnesses like IBS, Crohn’s disease, and Ulcerative Colitis.
Treatments for these conditions vary, depending on their severity. Nearly all conditions can benefit from changes in diet and reduced stress. Avoiding foods that cause gas, such as soda or vegetables like cabbage, or broccoli can help. If you know that certain foods cause upset, make sure to eliminate them from your diet. As far as stress goes, it’s often unavoidable. However, regular acupuncture treatments and massage are proven to reduce the effects of stress on the body. Using the principles of TCM we can also find out what specifically is causing your condition, and offer personalized dietary advice.
Many medications for these conditions can have severe and unwanted side-effects. For some, it might make more sense to get an herbal consult from a licensed practitioner who specializes in traditional herbal formulas, as these generally have fewer side-effects. At Hands on Acupuncture and Massage Therapy, our qualified practitioners can offer you a range of treatment options, including custom formulas based on the effective principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
