Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli.
Spring is all about green. Green, plants, green trees, and believe it or not, green food. Green in many foods, is a sign of chlorophyll. That magical substance that turns sunlight into energy for plants to grow. In humans, it helps build and purify the blood. Since spring is a time for strengthening the liver, any foods that help renew and detoxify it are going to be high on our list. The roughage of green plants also helps clear congestion from the lungs and intestines. Giving your insides a good “spring cleaning.” Lastly, eating green can give a nice boost to your moods.
This smoothie, from healthygreenkitchen.com, is loaded with healthy greens. It also has healthy fats, from avocado; ginger and apple, for just the right amount of sweetness to improve taste, and digestion; and some lemon, adding a little sour taste that’s also good for the liver. Remember though, too much cold and raw food can be hard to digest, so if you’re having cramps or digestive issues, you might want to go for a warm meal instead. But if you’re looking for a little something to kick-start your spring, this green smoothie should do the trick.
