Home Remedies for Cold and Flu
Anyone can be knocked off track by an unexpected cold or flu, but did you know there are some simple things you can do at home to cut short these illnesses. You just need to prepare to face them when they first arise. Taking some simple supplements can prevent further complications from these pesky bugs. Here are some tips from the Acupuncture Today article, Empowering Winter Health: Home Remedies. (This comes from the December 2019 issue.)
First off is the formula Gan Mao Ling. It comes in many versions and is easily available on the internet. It clears heat and toxins, relieves cough, and opens the nasal passages. It addresses fever with chills, headaches, sore throat, stiff neck, nasal discharge, swollen glands, and body aches. At the first onset of cold, take every three hours with warm ginger tea. (To make ginger tea, put a few slices of fresh ginger in warm water.)
Another good thing is Elderberry syrup. This also shortens colds and flu. Get the quality extract, not sugary gums or candies. Elderberry syrup clears heat and toxins concerning fevers. But for other symptoms like coughing, aches, and headaches, you’ll want to be sure to take it with Gan Mao Ling. It’s a potent combination.
In terms of prevention, the most important thing you can do is care for nutrition by having herbal soups daily. The right herbs and spices strengthen digestion, prevent illness, and increase vitality. Examples are cumin, coriander, fennel, oregano, black pepper, turmeric, star anise, caraway, mustard, and ginger. Add these as part of soup with beef, vegetable or bone broth base. You can top them with fresh garlic for further prevention, and to improve respiratory and cardiovascular health. If your digestion is strong, have fresh garlic with every meal. Otherwise, powdered garlic is okay, but not as potent.
Lastly drink warm tea daily. A quality green or white tea with some fresh ginger will do fine. Eat less sugar generally, and have a good sleep routine. Also, wash your hands often with warm water and soap. At Hands On Acupuncture and Massage, we also offer an herbal supplement called Immune AG, which you can take daily to keep your immune system strong, or more often if coming down with something.

Crystal Bowl Sound Healing
Group Meditation
Sound healing is a form of meditation that is performed in a group where you lay on a yoga mat and let the sound transport you.
Sound healing has many benefits including:
- reducing stress and anxiety
- improves circulation
- deepens relaxation
- increases mental & emotional clarity.
- restores balance
Vibrational sound healing can be traced back from present-day trends to many ancient civilizations including India, Africa, Europe, and the Orient. The idea is to restore balance to the chakra system and clearing the blocked energy within ourselves. Sound healing is similar to reiki healing; It is a form of energy healing that allows your body to self-regulate and self heal.
Let the sounds vibrate through you to feel the power of self-preservation and healing.
