A Brief Introduction to CBD Products
CBD, or cannabidiol, has gathered a lot of attention lately for its many potential health benefits. It is a compound from the hemp plant, that is to say, the marijuana plant. A little science lesson for you. Marijuana plants have both male and female types. The female plant has psychoactive components and is the kind some people smoke to get a “high” feeling. The male plant, known as hemp, is not psychoactive at all. It has many uses though as fiber for rope and paper. It’s also nutritionally significant with vitamins and essential fatty acids. When we talk about CBD, we’re talking about compounds from the hemp plant that allows one to get the health benefits of the plant, without getting high. There are many useful compounds in hemp, and using whole-plant extraction, chemists can get many of them, while also omitting the ones that cause intoxication. Because it is not psychoactive, CBD is currently legal in all 50 states. However, there is a chance that use could lead to a false positive on drug tests, so bear that in mind if you’re required to undergo drug screenings.
Supplementing with CBD offers many potential benefits to health. The plant’s chemicals interact with our bodies “Endo-cannabinoid” system. This consists of a network of receptors within our bodies that affect immunity, memory, appetite, sleep, mood, and pain. Having a well-developed endo-cannabinoid systems means these receptors are working to maintain homeostasis within our bodies. In other words, to maintain balance. Effects of regular CBD use include relaxation, healthy appetite, better sleep, and pain relief.
There are many ways to take CBD products. There’s topical creams, sublingual oils, and edibles, like gummy bears and capsules. These come in various strengths too. So, you’d be well advised to speak with someone with some knowledge on the subject before you jump in and start trying CBD. With the right approach and a little information, you can add this supplement to your routine, and find that it offers many benefits, with few negative side-effects.
