Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli.

Home Remedies for the Common Cold

We all know the feeling…your joints start to ache, your nose starts to run, maybe you feel chills or wind-sensitive.  You’re starting to catch a cold.  Perhaps worse than the dread of feeling sick for the next few days, is the anxiety that comes with whether you’ll be able to go to work or meet your responsibilities.  Wouldn’t it be nice if you could nip this thing in the bud, before it blossoms into a full-blown illness?

Well, there is hope, and it’s only as far away as your grocery store.  Maybe even your kitchen cabinet.

Cinnamon has been used for centuries to fight and prevent colds.  Paired with raw honey, it’s even more effective.  When you feel those sniffles, mix 1 teaspoon raw honey with ¼ teaspoon cinnamon. You could then mix that with hot water, or just eat it with a spoon.  Do that a few times, and maybe, you’ll sweat out that cold before it develops.

At Hands On Health and Wellness we also have an assortment of Traditional Chinese Formulas to help you battle illness.  One that’s popular this time of year is “Gui Zhi Tang.”  That literally means, “cinnamon mixture.”  It includes a well-balanced assortment of natural herbs, that are very effective at fighting colds and flu.  We hope you take good care of your health this season, and make it a happy one.
