Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli, from the office of Elizabeth Martin.
Considering CBD Supplements
CBD is a supplement that’s getting a lot of attention lately. It’s credited with being able to help anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, and seizures. All this, while carrying a few side-effects. However, with so many products out there, it can be difficult to know which ones are safe and effective. I will go into that now.
CBD stands of “Cannabidiol”. It’s usually harvested from the hemp plant, which is a cousin to the marijuana plant. This is an important distinction, as hemp is legal in all 50 states, while marijuana is not. Also, marijuana contains THC in much larger amounts. THC is what makes a person “high” when they take marijuana. Full Spectrum CBD contains, by law, less than .3% THC. In other words, CBD will not make you “high”. However, there is a small chance this .3% could show up on a drug test. If that’s is a concern for you, choosing a Broad Spectrum CBD is a better choice, as it contains 0% THC.
Potential side-effects of CBD include tiredness, diarrhea, and changes to appetite. These are minimized by finding the right dosage for an individual. Starting with a low dose, of about 25mg/day, then gradually increasing every few days until noticing a positive effect on your symptoms. If any negative side-effects develop, gradually lower the dosage until they cease. This is how you find your correct dose. If you find yourself taking more than 25mg/day, you may want to go with a higher concentration of CBD in the future. It’s also worth noting, CBD is most effective when taken daily in regular doses. That is one reason why oral CBD is better than vaping, as it’s more difficult to determine dosage from vaped CBD. Topical CBD is generally considered safe and used as needed.
Besides dosage, the other important factor is quality. With all the popularity of CBD lately, there are some bad products out there. You will want to make sure the CBD you choose does transparent quality assurance testing. The CBD we offer, from Proverde Health, has quality assurance testing results right on their website. This shows voluntary purity testing done by an independent testing center. So in this product, you know exactly what you’re getting in each batch of CBD.
If you’re looking for a relatively safe and effective way to ease chronic pain, anxiety, insomnia, or seizures, a reputable CBD may be the right fit. CBD is a supplement, not a medication. That means you don’t need a prescription to get it. That being said, it’s always worth talking to your doctor before adding any new supplements to your self-care. If you decide you want to add a CBD supplement, talk to us at Hands On Acupuncture and Massage, we will be glad to assist.

Crystal Bowl Sound Healing
Group Meditation
Sound healing is a form of meditation that is performed in a group where you lay on a yoga mat and let the sound transport you.
Sound healing has many benefits including:
- reducing stress and anxiety
- improves circulation
- deepens relaxation
- increases mental & emotional clarity.
- restores balance
Vibrational sound healing can be traced back from present-day trends to many ancient civilizations including India, Africa, Europe, and the Orient. The idea is to restore balance to the chakra system and clearing the blocked energy within ourselves. Sound healing is similar to reiki healing; It is a form of energy healing that allows your body to self-regulate and self heal.
Let the sounds vibrate through you to feel the power of self-preservation and healing.
