Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli, from the office of Elizabeth Martin.
Nightly Acupressure Massage For Pediatrics
I’d like to share a Chinese Wellness Massage for you to use to help keep your child’s energy well balanced. It’s safe and simple to perform on kids up to age 12. It’s a great practice for maintaining balance of your child’s energy. I have chosen this version from the book, Heal Your Child from the Inside Out, by Robin Ray Green, L.Ac., MTCM.
(Each step can be done for 30 seconds to a minute.)
- Make light, pinching movement, walking up with your hands on either side of the child’s spine. (Don’t pinch too firmly if the child is ticklish!)
- With your thumb, make outward circles on each palm, for the chosen amount of time.
- Again with your thumb, stroke downward from the corner of the thumbnail, down to the wrist.
- 30 seconds plus of lightly rubbing the tummy clockwise.
- Rub the acupuncture point on each leg, shown in the picture above. To find this point, it’s on the outside edge of the front of the leg, approximately one hands-width below the knee. ( your child’s hand-width, not your own.) You will feel a little divot at the right spot.
This is the general form of the massage that is beneficial to any child. If you have more of an interest on this subject, I highly recommend the book mentioned above. In it, the author goes into detail how to figure out your child’s elemental nature, and offers practices that can benefit them, based specifically on their constitutional 5 element type.
