Getting Started with CBD
You’ve probably lately, heard much regarding CBD. CBD is a natural compound that comes from hemp and marijuana plants. For some people, it’s been proven beneficial for a multitude of health issue; from anxiety and depression, to pain and seizures. But with a variety of products out there, some quite expensive, you’d be well served to do some research before trying CBD.
CBD is one of many “cannabinoid” molecules found in hemp and marijuana plants. (They are both the same plant, but hemp is the male, and marijuana the female; from here-on I will just say hemp). What we know so far, is that cannabinoids work with the endocannabinoid system within our bodies to help maintain balance and homeastasis. That translates into pain-relief, improved sleep, better digestion, etc. Another benefit of CBD, is that it doesn’t have to mind altering effects of THC, another cannabinoid, that is still strongly regulated, for just that reason. The process of extracting CBD also eliminates THC in the product, which by law must be less than .03%, a minuscule amount. CBD is then combined with any number of carrier oils that help its shelf-life, and aids metabolism within the body.
The next important factor is that of dosage strength. When first taking CBD, start small, and gradually increase in strength until you start to get relief from whatever ails you. You could start as low as 8mg per daily dose, and go as high as 35mg and above. It all depends on how your body reacts. On the plus side, the symptoms of too much CBD are mild. If you’re feeling overly lethargic, or start to have digestive problems, that’s a sign to dial it back a little. There are many products out there, some with added ingredients and benefits; plus topicals, edibles, etc. Just make sure to check the label so you know exactly how much CBD is in each dose. Once you know your range, it will make future purchases much more simple.
