Enjoy our weekly wellness tip from Licensed Acupuncturist, Michael Savalli, from the office of Elizabeth Martin.
The Value of Tradition
The ‘T” in “TCM”, stands for traditional. It is made up of medicines that have been passed down for generations. But besides medicine, it carries a tradition of diet and activity. They are traditions meant to promote wellness and health. The Chinese have used these practices for generations. However, this is not the only culture that has these kinds of traditions. In India, there is a popular traditional medicine known as Ayurveda. Beyond that, I imagine that just about every culture in the world has some form of these traditions. Especially when it comes to food. Having studied TCM, I now have a deeper appreciation for the traditions of all cultures.
As we approach the Holiday Season, I ask you to look at what traditions you hold in your families. Try to appreciate their value and the lessons they contain. Whether it be American traditions, like Turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving; or traditions brought by your families when they moved to this country. Traditions can be big or small; shared by cultures or practiced only by a few individuals. Traditions connect us to the past and carry us into the future. I hope you enjoy and appreciate yours, as we head into this holiday season!
