Tai Chi for Health
Tai Chi is a traditional exercise that’s been around for centuries. Practicing it develops our understanding of the mind-body relationship, bringing the two in harmony, and benefiting the health of both. It’s a study in movement, within the structure of a Tai Chi form. It can be an expression of ones uniqueness, yet also, may bring us into harmony with all things.
The qualities of Tai Chi, are soft and flowing, yet rooted strongly with the earth. It might surprise some of you to learn that Tai Chi is a martial art. It’s soft, fluid nature sets it apart from many other martial arts that focus on external strength. Tai Chi is more about internal strength, and external flexibility. Tai Chi is about learning the flow of Qi. (The words Qi and Chi, though sounding alike, have different meanings.)
The strength of Tai Chi can be likened to the flowing of a gentle stream. Though it’s nature is soft, it’s movement, in time, can wear down stone. It represents both the eternal, and the ever-changing. It’s postures are simple to learn, difficult to master. Regular practice contributes towards longevity, and lasting health. It cultivates inner-strength, and emotional peace. If this sounds appealing to you, join us on our journey of Tai Chi, every Sunday at 10:30 A.M. At Hands On Acupuncture and Massage in Stony Brook.
